Banded Broadbill (Banded) Eurylaimus javanicus [harterti Group]

Eurylaimus javanicus friedmanni (Deignan, 1947, Sathani Hin Lap, lat. 14° 40' N., long. 101° 10' E., Siam [eastern Thailand])
– South-east Myanmar, southern Thailand (south to Isthmus of Kra), and southern Indochina.

Identification :
– Very similar to harterti but has a more metallic gray wash below, with a rosier violet throat and upperparts.

Eurylaimus javanicus pallidus (Chasen, 1935, Kao Nawng [ = Khao Nong, a mountain at lat. 8° 55' N., long. 99° 38' E.], Peninsular Siam)
– Southern Thailand (north to the Isthmus of Kra) and Peninsular Malaysia; formerly also in Singapore.

Identification :
– Closely resembles friedmanni, but is more vinaceous pink below with a weaker gray wash. Measurements (in mm, from Wells 3), based on 17 males and 19 females: wing of males 105–111 mm, wing of females 102–109 mm; tail of males 58.3–66.8 mm, tail of females 58.0–63.0 mm; bill of males 25.0–29.3 mm, bill of females 25.0–27.8 mm; tarsus of males 22.8–27.0 mm, tarsus of females 23.7–26.9 mm.

Eurylaimus javanicus harterti (van Oort, 1909, Deli, North Sumatra)
– Sumatra, the Riau Archipelago (Bintan), and Bangka and Belitung Islands.

Identification :
– Larger than javanicus with aquamarine-blue (not yellow) irides, darker underparts, a maroon (not brown) mantle, and a pink (not yellow) vent. Males have a very distinct black breast-band that is absent in females, but the latter sometimes show a vestigial gray pectoral band. Wing 101–116 mm, mass 74–84 g.

Eurylaimus javanicus brookei (Robinson & Kloss, 1919, Ulu Paku and Anyut Paku 5, Saribas, Sarawak, Borneo)
– Borneo and the North Natuna Islands.

Identification :
– Similar in size to E. j. harterti, but males of the present taxon are pinker with a poorly demarcated black pectoral band, a blacker forehead, and a slightly pinker throat. Females differ only in the darker forehead. Iris color, like harterti, is usually grayish, but occasionally pale blue. Wing 104–112 mm.
