Taxonomy update for 2023
Pale-eyed Bulbul (Pycnonotus davisoni) is split from Stripe-throated Bulbul
(Pycnonotus finlaysoni). The pale eye color makes for a striking difference,
while the duller and less distinct yellow head and throat streaking marks a
more subtle difference. The two apparently occur in sympatry without much
or any hybridization, which tends to be the gold standard for species status.

    Size : 19–20 cm; male 28.2–32 g, female 27.6–30.3 g in northern P. f. eous, 
              24.3–32.3 g in southern P. f. eous and P. f. finlaysoni

    Subspecies (2) and Distribution

• Pycnonotus finlaysoni eous (Riley, 1940, Col des Nuages [16°11'N., 108° 08' E.], Annam)
  – Occurs from southwestern China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, southeastern Myanmar, and Thailand, except in the south.
• Identification :
  – Differs from nominate finlaysoni in being slightly brighter above and below.
• Pycnonotus finlaysoni finlaysoni (Strickland, 1844, 'Probably from some of the Malasian islands, error; type locality corrected to Malacca, by Hartert, 1902)
  – Confined to the Thai-Malay Peninsula, including southern Myanmar, southern Thailand south to central Malaysia.
• Identification :
  – Resembles eous but overall slightly darker and has brownish-tinged underparts.
