- Monotypic. (Linnaeus, 1758, Europe)– Breeds from 45–70° across N Palearctic from Iceland eastwards to Kamchatka, southwards to C Europe, Mongolia and rarely N Japan (Hokkaido). Winters in C & S Europe, Africa, Middle East and S & E Asia.
