Golden-throated Barbet (Psilopogon franklinii) populations from southern Vietnam and a small corner of adjacent Laos are recognized as a distinct species Necklaced Barbet (Psilopogon auricularis). :

    Size : c. 20.5–23.5 cm; 50–73 g (ramsayi), 71–101 g (franklinii)

    

    Subspecies and Distribution

• Psilopogon franklinii franklinii (Blyth, 1842) – Himalayan Golden-throated Barbet
  – C Nepal E along Himalayan slopes to N Myanmar and S China (SE Tibet, W & S Yunnan, SW Guangxi), S to Bangladesh (no recent records), N Thailand, N Laos and N Vietnam.
• Psilopogon franklinii ramsayi (Walden, 1875) – Malay Golden-throated Barbet
  – C Myanmar and NW Thailand S through Malay Peninsula.
