• Melanochlora sultanea sultanea (Hodgson, 1837, Nepal)
  – E Himalayas from C Nepal to NE India (Arunachal Pradesh S to Manipur and Mizoram), Myanmar, N Thailand and S China (W and S Yunnan).
• Melanochlora sultanea flavocristata (Lafresnaye, 1837, Isles de la Sonde [= Sumatra])
  – C and S Thailand, Malay Peninsula and SE China (Hainan); possibly also Sumatra where status unknown.
• Melanochlora sultanea seorsa (Bangs, 1924, Yenping, Fohkien, China)
  – N Indochina (S to C Laos) and SE China (Guangxi, Fujian).
