    – Nepal E to Bhutan and all NE Indian hill states, S China (SE Xizang, W & NW Yunnan), N, W, E & SE Myanmar and NW & W Thailand.
  • Schoeniparus castaneceps exul (Delacour, 1932)
    – N Thailand, N & C Laos, N Vietnam (Tonkin, N Annam) and S China (S & SE Yunnan E to W Guangxi).
  • Schoeniparus castaneceps stepanyani (J. C. Eames, 2002)
    – SE Laos and C Vietnam.
  • Schoeniparus castaneceps soror (Sharpe, 1887)
    – Peninsular Malaysia.
