Taxonomy update for 2014
Pied Fantail (Rhipidura javanica), is split into two species, with 
Philippine Pied Fantail occupying the Philippines & Sulu Archipelago, 
and Malaysian Pied Fantail occurring throughout the rest of the 
species’ wide range in Southeast Asia :
- Malaysian Pied Fantail (Rhipidura javanica)
- Philippine Pied Fantail (Rhipidura nigritorquis)

    Size : 17.5-19.5 cm, 14-19 g

    (LC : Least Concern)
    Subspecies and Distribution
  • Rhipidura javanica longicauda (Wallace, 1865)
    – S Myanmar E to Cambodia and S Vietnam, S to Peninsular Malaysia, Riau Archipelago, Sumatra (including Bangka and Belitung) and Borneo (including N islands and Maratua group).
  • Rhipidura javanica javanica (Sparrman, 1788)
    – Java, Bali and Lombok.
