Taxa 28293–28298 : Two groups are now recognized for the Dark-sided Flycatcher Muscicapa sibirica,
the northern-breeding Dark-sided Flycatcher (Siberian) Muscicapa sibirica sibirica and the subspecies that breed in the Himalayas and mountains of China, Dark-sided Flycatcher (Himalayan) Muscicapa sibirica [cacabata Group].

- Muscicapa sibirica sibirica (Gmelin, JF 1789)
– SE Siberia to Japan; > to Indochina and Greater Sundas. - Muscicapa sibirica gulmergi (Baker, ECS 1923)
– W Himalayas (e Afghanistan to Kashmir and Garhwal). - Muscicapa sibirica cacabata (Penard, TE 1919)
– E Himalayas to se Tibet and ne India; > to s Thailand. - Muscicapa sibirica rothschildi (Baker, ECS 1923)
– breeds in mountains of western China and northern Myanmar; winters in southern China, Indochina, and the Thai-Malay Peninsula.
